- READ.ME File for Fido Version 9
- T. Jennings 5 Sept 84
-
- If you already have Fido running, then you
- will not need to go through it all again. Version 9
- is fully compatible with older versions.
-
- Note however, that there is no longer a seperateì
- FIDONET program; it is now incorporated within Fido. You
- should read the documentation about the changes regarding
- this and the batchfile, RUNBBS.
-
- If you do not have Fido running yet, then please,
- make sure you have ALL the files and have read ALL
- the manuals. Much of the information was added at
- the request and suggestions of Fido sysops. It will
- probably answer most questions. If you need further
- help, feel free to ask.
-
-
- The manuals for Fido Version 9 have again been
- radically updated, and organized into three manuals:
-
- FIDO.DOC Fido's Operating Manual
-
- Tells what Fido does, how to operate it, and
- covers the SYSOP and TIMELOG utilities.
-
- INSTALL.DOC Fido's Installation Manual
-
- Implementation details, how to install. Also
- contains detailed descriptions off all structures used
- in Fido's files.
-
- FIDONET.DOC Fido's FidoNet Manual
-
- How to install and operate FidoNet.
-
- The Installation manual tells how to set up a
- system from scratch, assuming that all your paths, etc
- need to be set. Please follow it unless you use SETUP.BAT,
- which creates a set or working directories.
-
- If you have SETUP.BAT, then use the Installation
- Manual to modify the minimal system created.
-
-
- .........................................
-
- The place to start is with SETUP.BAT. Read it,
- then run it. If you do not have a distribution diskette,
- then copy all of the Fido files to a single diskette
- or directory.
-
- To run SETUP.BAT, copy it into the disk or
- directory you want Fido installed in, and just run it.
- Follow the Installation manual from there.
